EcoKids Report #35

Earth Day 2

Sunday, June 13, we met in the middle of the 5600 Block of Forest for our first Earth Day in the Troost Plateau neighborhood. Six EcoKids were present. Again, last minute adaptation had to be made to accommodate the play to the six out of ten EcoKids who came. I used narration to make the play work for the few kids that came. The kids did okay. The director was anxious.

The audience was made up parents and a family that lived five blocks away, out of the immediate neighborhood. No one from the block or the Troost Plateau subdivision came to the play. There was no potluck following. It rained up until about two hours before the performance. Perhaps that’s why no one came. Everyone on the block signed the city permit to allow the street to be blocked off so they all knew. The literature was put out on tables. One neighbor let us plug in to get electricity for tools and the sound system.

Thanks to Jeff Fegley, Joel Kraft and three family volunteers who helped us set up and break down.
